Real Women on Real Bikes Cruzin’ to Cure Breast Cancer

I’m so proud to be a member of Harley’s Angels. Harley’s Angels is a group of women motorcycle enthusiasts dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness, research, and education. Our primary fundraising project is the publication of a calendar featuring the women of “Harley’s Angels.” With one out of eight women being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, it is no surprise that there are also several breast cancer survivors within our group. The calendar is tastefully designed featuring the women of Harley’s Angels and our motorcycles.

Our first calendar was published in 2003 and after seven successful calendar years, you are likely to find our calendars anywhere from bike shops to grandmother’s kitchen. We have donated $415,500 to two of Houston’s finest research centers supporting Dr. Kent Osborne, Director of Baylor’s Breast Center and Dr. Kelly Hunt, Chief Breast Surgeon, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

It’s the Weekend

I’m glad the weekend is here. It was a very crazy week at work, but I got everything done that I needed to get done. I’m excited about Sunday. I’m going to visit with my family which includes my nieces whom I haven’t seen in way too long. I get to meet a great-niece & great-nephew for the first time! It may be weird trying to catch up on 4 years with everyone all at once, but it’s start.

We had a cold front blow in today, bringing stormy weather and much cooler air. It’s was 66 earlier… I’m not a big fan of cold weather so I’m not liking the changes. Give me summer all the time! But who knows, by next week it could be back up to 90. That’s one of the perks of living in Texas!

A good weekend

I really enjoyed the weekend, for the most part. It rained off and on so we spent we spent it indoors, relaxing. We didn’t have to fill guilty about not doing anything outside. And why do we do that anyway? The guilt part I mean. After working all week, why don’t we feel like we deserve to “just do nothing?”

The only bad thing is our terrier, Picasso, is not doing well. He has bad heartworms and has been taking medicine for the past 6 months… The vet changed up his meds a few weeks ago and evidently that may not be the best thing. He got really sick this weekend so I will be taking him to the vet this morning. My poor boy, I hope he’s going to be ok.

Oh but to sleep…

Remember when you were a kid and you HATED going down for a nap? And at night you would wail against bed time? We would do anything to avoid going to sleep. Boy we were stupid! I would love to be able to sleep like that again.. Insomnia is a bitch.

Rainy Weekend

So it is supposed to be raining all weekend. That is actually fine with me. That gives me two options. One, I can be lazy and not feel guilty about not doing anything outside. Two, I can be industrious and finish organizing my office. We’ll see which option wins. Maybe I’ll compromise and do a little of both.

It’s Been Almost a Year

It’s hard to believe, but I’m 9 days away from my “C Day.” (C day = Cancer Day.) I was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 11, 2008. To say it has been an interesting year would be a severe understatement. It has been an eye opening experience though and one of self-discovery and learning. I’ve discovered exactly how tough/strong I really am. I’ve discovered what an amazing family and awesome circle of friends I have. I’ve learned how important it is to not take anyone or anything for granted.
